About Us
OUR MISSION
C.A.S.It.’s mission is to assist communities that wish to introduce, preserve, rejuvenate or broaden the study of the Italian language in their schools. To this end, C.A.S.It., in collaboration with the Italian Consulate, facilitates the awarding process of initial grants, of different amounts, to establish programs of Italian language and culture in public and private schools in the jurisdiction of the Italian Consulate in Boston.
ESTABLISHMENT OF C.A.S.IT.
In the 1970s-1980s the Italian language in the United States was experiencing a strong decline. This lack of interest in the Italian language was confirmed by a survey conducted in 1994 by the Consul General of Italy in all his consular jurisdictions. The results of the survey were collected from responses to questionnaires sent both to public and private schools. The main objective of the survey was to determine the status of the Italian language in the New England area. The results of the survey brought various professional and social Italo-American associations to agree that there was a need to solve the problem.
C.A.S.It. was founded in 1995 under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In order to maintain and strengthen the presence of the Italian language in schools C.A.S.It. collaborates with: the General Consulate of Italy in Boston; Italian Governative Agencies; Italian and Italo-American Organizations; Universities; public schools in Massachusetts. C.A.S.IT., Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit entity.
